Manila

Manila (Tagalog: Maynila; pronounced in Tagalog and in English) is the capital of the Philippines. It is one of the sixteen cities comprising Metro Manila.

Manila is located on the eastern shores of Manila Bay and is bordered by Navotas and Caloocan to the north, Quezon City to the northeast, San Juan and Mandaluyong to the east, Makati on the southeast, and Pasay to the south.

Manila has a total population of more than 1,660,714 according to the 2007 census. Manila is the second most populous city in the Philippines behind Quezon City. The populace inhabit an area of only 38.55 square kilometers, making Manila the most densely populated city in the world. Metro Manila is the most populous metropolitan area in the Philippines and the 11th in the world with an estimated population of 16,300,000. The greater urban area is the fifth-largest in the world and has an estimated metropolitan population of 20,654,307 people.

The city is divided into six legislative districts and consists of sixteen geographical districts: Binondo, Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Paco, Pandacan, Port Area, Quiapo, Sampaloc, San Andres, San Miguel, San Nicolas, Santa Ana, Santa Cruz, Santa Mesa and Tondo. Within their precincts can be found areas of bustling commerce and some of the most historically and culturally significant iconic landmarks in the country as well as the seat of the executive and judicial branches of the government. It is home to many scientific and educational institutions, as well as numerous sport facilities. These make the city a major political, commercial, cosmopolitan, cultural, educational, religious, and transportation center of the Philippines.

Nightlife at Manila



Philippines nightlife is renowned, and there are plenty of nighttime entertainment options. For all intents and purposes, the Metro Manila is home to the most exciting nightlife in the Philippines, though destinations like Angeles City can also show visitors a good time once the sun goes down. Fun can be had across the country during the dark hours, and the parties are usually at their best during the January to March high season.

When it comes to Philippines nightlife, the Metro Manila area, Angeles City, and the island of Boracay figure among the top destinations. Manila is home to bars of all kinds, and some of the best can be found in the Malate and Ermita areas. Coincidentally, these areas are also home to some of the most popular Manila hotels. The action in Ermita tends to be on the seedier side, which has a lot to do with its prolific number of girlie bars. Makati City, which can be found in the Metro Manila area, is arguably home to the best bars around, and its where many expatriates and travelers like to grab some drinks. The Manila nightlife has something for everyone, and if sitting down at a bar sounds less appealing than dancing, there are some good clubs in the capital.



Some of the best Manila clubs can be found at the EDSA International Entertainment Complex. This complex can be found in the Pasay area, and it's known for its good happy hour deals. The Manila night clubs can get pretty lively, and being that they are in the busy capital, they tend to be relatively expensive. When travelers need a break from the Manila nightlife, they can always make the short trip north to see what's on tap in Quezon City. This largest city in the country is one of the best places to catch some live music. Heading even further north on the island of Luzon, travelers will eventually come to Angeles City, which is easily one of the premier Philippines nightlife hot spots.
While Angeles City caters to business travelers and your average leisure travelers, it also caters to a seedier side of nightlife. The sex industry is very much on display in Angeles City, and it has more than its fair share of girlie bars. While the reputation of this city has gotten better over time, it is still pretty much a party destination that revolves largely around the sex industry. That being said, Angeles City can make for an excellent base for trips to Mt. Pinatubo, which is one of the country's most famous volcanoes.
Fun comes in a few different forms when it comes to the nightlife in the Philippines, and there is certainly a lot of it to be had on the small island of Boracay. This island, which has long been attracting visitors with its amazing beach, is one of the best places to unwind in southeast Asia. Many of the bars on the island of Boracay offer extended happy hours, and they are known to stay open until around 3 a.m. While Boracay takes the cake when it comes to enjoying beach time and nightlife in the Philippines, other destinations are worth keeping in mind as well. They include the resort destination of Puerto Galera, which is reachable in just a few hours from Manila. Most of the bars, pubs, and restaurants in Puerto Galera can be reached by foot with ease, and live music is common on the weekends.
